Let there be LIFE…

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Let me be quite frank I have never had a green thumb…like AT ALL. But after reading my girl MiMi Unlikely Martha’s blog and watching her dollar store haul, I said to myself…SELF, you can do this! I thought it would be a fun thing to do with Parker and Prestyn. Allow the girls to have some fun and watch something grow. So on one of my many unnecessary Target trips I stumbled upon these super cute little grass growing kits! Perfect I thought. I let the girls select which animal they wanted and we were off! Parker selected the pig because of her current obsession with the color pink and Peppa Pig, Prestyn selected the duck. Fun times!

The super cute kits that I found were less than three bucks each and they promised results of grass within seven days! A perfect way for the girls and I to start. I’ve got to ease into this thing y’all. The entire process was actually super simple and even Prestyn who isn’t two years old yet was able to participate with a little assistance!

Each package contained the animal pot, and seeds. We took them out, dumped the seeds in the pot and added a small amount of water. Each day we watered the pots and kept them on the windowsill in the kitchen to ensure they got sunlight daily. Well the results are in and well…Prestyn’s little ducky has lots of grass while Parkers pig…well, lets just say she literally has one blade of grass growing from it! A little birdie told me that daddy may have over watered Parkers pig and thats why its not growing like it should. But long story short this little experiment was quick, cheap and fun and gave the girls and I something to watch grow together! I had a great time doing this with my babies, I’m not sure if I am ready for a full on garden but I am feeling a but more confident in my green thumb skills.

After checking out some of our pictures above let me know your thoughts. Do you have a green thumb? Any tips and tricks that you can share? Let me know.

No green thumb over here, LOL! My girls and I attempted this last year with herbs. I believe it was Rosemary and oregano. I came in the house from doing some yard work to find the pots filled with waters. Needless to say a little person over watered them and they didn’t grow well, LOL!! Great project, Thanks for sharing.

Sounds about like ours! But I’m happy to report Parker now has two blades of grass instead of one! 😜

I loved growing stuff with my kids when they were younger. They grew a sunflower plant and we made sunflower seeds. That was so fun.

I love any idea that allows children to take part in nature. It’s so good for them to see and participate in these types of things. So much more valuable than sitting in front of a video game all day.

Exactly. I try to switch it up a bit to give them a good mixture of things to do!
